A Shift In Consciousness

10 pivoting canvases: combined  7' H x 4' W

Medium: oil, acrylic, graphite, paper on canvas

Dimensions: 8' H x 16' W x 5' D

Year: 1999-2001

Construction and Overview

This interactive art piece evolved from my studies of moral fear, i.e. the fear of error and loss, where that comes from and why.  It is an expression of my discovery of 3 important questions.

1. If God could make an error, what would it be, why, and how?
2. Who would know that God made an error?
3. If God did make a mistake, would it cause eternal loss?

 Physical description

There are ten canvases placed in a linear, swinging format.  Each canvas has a handle so that the viewer can turn/affect the composition of the piece and allow random selection to be part of the installation.  The viewer can start at either end, or even in the middle. Additionally, each viewer will leave the canvases in a different array, so the next viewer will “begin” with the artwork in a different state than the previous viewer, and thus have a different perception of the reality of the work. Lastly, there are collage-verbal canvases opposite of each painted canvas that serve to poetically begin a conversation for each image.

I have published a portfolio of this installation which is available upon request.
